In order to enjoy the changing seasons, I made an autumn-themed ikebana-style arrangement using potted plants and dried flowers.
The plant is sweet potato vines ipomoea. It has beautiful fall color but actually suitable for warm-climate like spring and summer. I am trying to grow it in the NY apartment to find how to overwinter.
せめて、季節の移り変わりを楽しむために、鉢植えとドライフラワーを使った、秋をテーマにした生け花風のアレンジを制作してみました。 花材は葉色が紫褐色の渋い色が素敵なスイートポテトリーフバイン（イポメア）２種です。暖かな気候に適しているので、秋頃になるとNYでは野外で育てるのは難しく、葉が落ちてしまいます。もともと室内用ではないのですが、室内で冬越えが可能かNYのアパート環境で試してみようと思います。

Recently, Those botanical arrangements are often represented as sculptural flower arrangements. Certainly, I feel that Japanese ikebana and bonsai are sculptural and the phrase fits nicely. Potted plants grow and the figure changes. So, it is fun to re-arrange several times.
デザインプロジェクトでいけばなスタイルのアレンジを提案する場合、時折、切り花ではなく鉢植え植物を使ったアレンジを提案します。特にコマーシャルプロジェクトの場合は切り花よりも長持ちするので鉢植えと切り花やドライフラワーを混ぜてアレンジを制作したりもします。最近はいけばなというよりはSculptural flower arrangementと表現されることが多いように思います。確かにいけばなや盆栽は彫刻的という表現がしっくりくる気がします。鉢植えを使うと植物自体が育ち変化していくので、その変化によって生まれるアレンジもまた面白いです。

さて、”わびさび”という言葉、NYのプロジェクトで意外にも頻繁に耳にするのです。デザインミーティングの時にwabi sabi approach、や wabi-sabi テクニック,という表現で一つのデザイン手法のように使われるのを耳にし、英語ではどのように説明されているのか気になったので調べてみました。
